I bought the OWC 1M2 enclosure with a 4 TB drive specifically to connect to the Thunderbolt4 ports on my M1 Mac Studio. It wasn't quite plug-and-play, on connecting it I got an error message saying "this disk is not readable", but a quick search got me instructions on how to initialise it, and that fixed it. To test it, I put a couple of 4k Apple Pro Res videos on it, to see if the drive and connection was fast enough to play in Da Vinci Resolve in real time. It played seamlessly, the same as the files on my internal hard drive, which is what I needed a Thunderbolt 4 drive for. My internal drive is nearly full, so I wanted to store the next animation project on the external drive, rather than have all the different versions of each shot filling up my internal drive. This is much better than a Corsair EX400U which was cheaper, but turned out to sometimes have a known compatibility issue with M series Macs (despite being advertised as suitable) and had to be returned (to a different seller). So I'm happy with the OWC, and Upgradeable had a good price for this premium product. Payment and shipping was easy and straightforward as well.
