- Removing and installing memory modules
- Make sure you read the safety information in Precautions and Procedures before you remove or install a memory module. When installing a memory module, do not open the module package until you are ready to install it. The package protects the module from Electrostatic discharge (ESD).
- To remove a memory module
- Turn off the computer and all attached devices.
- Disconnect the power cord, all cables, and remove the battery if it is installed.
- Wait for the computer to cool down.
- Turn the computer over and use a screwdriver to loosen and remove the screw on the bottom of the computer. (See installation guide for diagram). The screw is located on near the battery compartment.
- To avoid damaging the computer, do not remove or loosen any other screws.
- Turn the computer over again and position the computer so you are looking at the keyboard.
- Use a small screwdriver to press the three (3) tabs, located at the top of the keyboard, away from the keyboard. The three tabs are located between "esc" and "F1" , above "F11" and above "delete break". This will loosen the keyboard from its slot location and will enable you to lift it up.
- Gently lift the keyboard up and turn it over the touch pad. Do not detach the cable when lifting the keyboard.
- Touch a metal object to discharge static electricity. Avoid touching any part of the motherboard or other components inside the computer.
- Locate the memory bay underneath the keyboard slot.
- Remove the memory module by pulling out the tabs. Remove the new memory module from its packaging.
- Install the memory module by sliding it into the open bay at a 45-degree angle. Align the groove on the memory module with the groove in the bay.
- Gently push the module down until it snaps into place.
- When the module is correctly seated, gently re-seat the keyboard in its slot.
- Align the (6) tabs, located on the bottom of the keyboard, with the (6) grooves on the computer. Gently lower the keyboard until the (3) tabs, located on the top of the keyboard, click into place.
- Turn the computer over and replace the fastening screw.
- Make sure the system recognizes the new memory module.
