- Removing and installing memory modules
- Make sure you read the safety information in Precautions and Procedures before you remove or install a memory module. When installing a memory module, do not open the module package until you are ready to install it. The package protects the module from Electrostatic discharge (ESD).
- To remove a memory module
- Turn off the computer and all attached devices.
- Disconnect the power cord, all cables, and remove the battery if it is installed.
- Wait for the computer to cool down.
- Turn the computer over and use a screwdriver to loosen and remove the screw on the bottom of the computer. (See installation guide for diagram). The screw is located on near the battery compartment.
- To avoid damaging the computer, do not remove or loosen any other screws.
- Turn the computer over again and position the computer so you are looking at the keyboard.
- Use a small screwdriver to press the three (3) tabs, located at the top of the keyboard, away from the keyboard. The three tabs are located between "esc" and "F1" , above "F11" and above "delete break". This will loosen the keyboard from its slot location and will enable you to lift it up.
- Gently lift the keyboard up and turn it over the touch pad. Do not detach the cable when lifting the keyboard.
- Touch a metal object to discharge static electricity. Avoid touching any part of the motherboard or other components inside the computer.
- Locate the memory bay underneath the keyboard slot.
- Remove the memory module by pulling out the tabs. Remove the new memory module from its packaging.
- Install the memory module by sliding it into the open bay at a 45-degree angle. Align the groove on the memory module with the groove in the bay.
- Gently push the module down until it snaps into place.
- When the module is correctly seated, gently re-seat the keyboard in its slot.
- Align the (6) tabs, located on the bottom of the keyboard, with the (6) grooves on the computer. Gently lower the keyboard until the (3) tabs, located on the top of the keyboard, click into place.
- Turn the computer over and replace the fastening screw.
- Make sure the system recognizes the new memory module.

The more RAM you have installed in your computer, the more applications you can run without slowing down the system. For example, if you are installing a 2GB upgrade, it will allow for a greater potential performance increase in comparison to installing a 1GB or 512MB upgrade. If you are running applications on your computer that like to take advantage of the RAM installed, such as photo or video editing applications, it is a case of the more RAM installed the better the application will perform.

The operating system (or OS) your computer has installed also has a maximum RAM limit. The most common OS, Microsoft Windows generally ships as a 32-bit version. The downfall of a 32-bit OS is when more than 4GB of RAM is installed; the OS will read between 3.0GB to 3.6GB depending on the hardware installed in your computer. If you are running a 64-bit OS it will recognise more than 4GB of RAM. Click here for more information.
Installing memory in your computer is classified by most manufacturers as a Do It Yourself (DIY) upgrade. The Upgradeable Memory Installation Guide is included with every order which is to be used with your computers owner's manual. A PDF copy of the guide is available for download here. We provide tech support over the phone in case you require any further assistance performing the memory upgrade procedure.
A majority of computers sold do not require pairs to be installed. Where computers have Dual or Triple channel technology, installing memory in pairs will see a slight improvement in performance. With some computers, pairs can be a requirement, check your system configuration details table for more information.
We accept payment by either credit card (AMEX, MasterCard, VISA) or Bank Deposit. We do not charge any fees for orders paid by credit cards. For customers wishing to pay by bank deposit, the full payment instructions will be emailed to you once the order has been placed.
